@salfaro That's because what he is saying isn't entirely true.

I believe the hero true aim is to teach them how they should fight against him. To fix the issues in Maou leadership.

From what we know of the hero:
- He is a kind person
- He won against all of them on one vs one
- He didn't kill Maou nor the four generals
- He previously improved the work efficiency of the four general. But also did it in a very specific way. Each time he gave them a solution that would work even without him being present. Allowing them to change and evolve.

Based of that his current behaviour and threat of ending the world for selfish reason ... doesn't make sense ... Unless he is actually pretending.
Pretending is something he often does, especially to make them reflect on something.

What reason would he then put on a front and have them fight even though he knew they would likely never win against him in this current situation ?

- He genuinely wants them to kill him so they can take his philosopher stone.
- He want to teach Maou so she can change her way on how to use her army properly.

First point is in my opinion less likely, especially since Merness clearly understood what he was doing, and was about to say it before he got ... I guess should we call it snaped ?
Which bring me to my second point. He is trying to teach them something by putting them through a situation that seems ... very real.
To understand what that something is let's go back to the established hero history. In particular:
- He won against all of them on one vs one

While it seems typical from a manga or video game perspective it seems like ... this would be a fatal mistake in a real army. Because one person was allowed to fight all the generals of the army on one vs one. Similar to video game villains they have allowed him to progress and grow stronger. Quite frankly it was so easy that he didn't need anybody help. This is a serious issue in the army leadership, one that clearly reside at the top ... with the Maou (I'm sorry I'm terrible at names, I'll just call her Maou)

How to deal with someone like the hero:
- Step one: DO NOT FIGHT HIM ON 1 VS 1 ... This is the most absurd thing to do and likely stems from them being overconfident in winning against him.
- Step two: you have an army ... the hero is alone, USE YOUR ARMY ... Even if he is very powerful he wasn't always at the point where he is. Let's be honest there would be a lot of dead fighting against someone like the hero. But they had a way better chance than what they have right now. One person against thousands would never be able to keep up with everything at once, add on top of that the guidance from generals, support from a magic squad, archers, cavalry, powerful magic from the Maou. Even Maou recognised she used to be able to hurt him with her abilities before. Now imagine if she was using those while the hero was fighting against her army.
- Step three: DO NOT ALLOW YOUR ENTIRE LEADERSHIP TO LEAVE TOGETHER. What if they get attacked when they are out and about ? What if they die together. If the hero was truly wanted them dead, this would be the best situation to do it. They are isolated, unable to ask for rescue and even if they asked for rescue there would be no leadership to answer it.

Those are the current mistake I believe he is trying to teach her.By her experiencing a situation where to her its very real and very possible she is going to lose everything, she would see those errors and learn from it.

In the beginning I say that what he is saying is not entirely true. That's because, despite what I just said, I think there is a part of him that considered what he is saying. Being rejected that badly by the human world, despite fighting for them for three thousands years ... would make anybody upset. From what we know from the current world there is nobody that could do anything if he chosed to act on it. From the way he act and talk he seems to change the army but in a specific way that wouldn't require him if he were to be ... gone. I think the hero did experience those feelings and instead of acting on it, he started to take steps to improve the one force that could stop him if he were to come to this: the maou's army.

What I think is going to happen based on what the direction of the manga is taking: she is going to suggest for him a home where he could live, to change his purpose from just "saving the world" to "protect his family". (Which could be the hero real goal for her to make this suggestion, but there is no way to tell currently).

Of course, I could be completely wrong and he is just going to wipe all of them but ... he could have done all of that already, instead of fighting them out one by one. Which bring me to Merness's snape. Likely a teleportation spell with an illusion to make it look like he was getting dissolved.

Edit:
This post took me way too long to write ... Man, just a few chapters but I really fell in love with this manga, at first I though "oh this is kind of fun, the hero is helping the idiot generals and idiot maou to get better" but then we got hit with the hero past and its so tragic, I love it so much. (Hence why the lengthy post)

This is taking waaaaaay too long to settle. Way too long.

@vaur what you say makes sense. One mistake, though: going against the hero (this one especially) with the army would just meaninglessly decimate the army.

Page six "selling a fight" should usually be translated into "picking a fight" since the intent is to start a fight (or making the other party start the fight by acting in a way that they can't accept).
