Tfw you've been there. When positive encouragement just brings you down even more. When you don't want to hear anything from anyone and just want to rest. Anw, good chapter. 10/10 would like to get Vietnam flashbacks again.

Those who claim to want something depressing when they feel themselves depressed make zero sense. They need to be pulled out by something annoying, fluffy and cheerful against their will rather then try to cure depression with depression.

@kwendy Whether you think it makes sense or not hardly matters to anyone. What does matter is if it works or not. Humans are complicated. For some people that actually works including me. It’s surprisingly relaxing to read something even more depressing than my life when I’m depressed. Something bright and cheery can just have the opposite effect. When I’m in a really bad mood and you try to force me with extremely positive stuff, that will just double my bad mood. I find nothing more annoying than forced positivity when I’m feeling very negative. I won’t deny for other people it’s probably best to look at positive stuff but you shouldn’t force that view on others like that’s the only Possible cure.

@Niralam And you totally not just repeating the same sycle for all eternity, yea...
I mean not to diss the tastes, but I don't think it can really be called the cure.

@kwendy A cure is anything that works to fix the problem. If it doesn’t fix the problem it’s not a cure. Why do you assume I’m stuck in some kind of endless loop? These days I’m living a preety happy life. I get depressed sometimes like any normal human being but I get over it and it doesn’t usually come back anytime soon. But that’s not because I’m in a loop, that’s just life. It’s impossible to perpetually be happy. Reading depressing stories helps me feel better when I’m depressed. So how is that not a cure? On the other hand forced positivity has never worked for me in the past and usually it just makes things worse so it’s not a cure, it closer to a poison really for me. Why are you so judgemental over the way people cope with certain emotions. People are all different and cope in different ways, get over it. Just because it doesn’t work for you doesn’t mean you can say that’s it’s nonsense. Hell what does a wrong way to make yourself happier even mean? Why does the method matter as long as it works (not counting illegal/morally wrong stuff ofcourse). Any way that makes you feel better and improves your life .is “right” way to go about things

@Niralam That depends. If you live normal happy life - good for you, genuinely. And of course reading what you like will uplift your mood. But to go as far as to call it a cure to depression - I put my doubt on that one.
What I've seen is growth of angst, sometimes anger when fail to feel the need and defenciveness like calling people judgemental or feeling personally attacked, taking offence over nothing. True, uplifting things can cause anger, but sometimes it can shake people up. Feeling full spectrum of emotions is really good for person wellbeing.
