When I first read the page thought that Fern girl was Elly.

I'm going to guess Fern is Dufort's daughter (possibly adopted).

1. She's probably the daughter of one of the previous book owners- I don't think she's Elly with a different name since that would just be unnecessarily confusing. Also, I think Elly should be older (assuming time runs the same in both worlds, 13 years have passed, so Elly should be a young adult, maybe around 19). Elly also wasn't as short-spoken and direct as Fern.
2. You know who was short-spoken and direct, to the point of being seen as incredibly rude? Dufort. It's not surprising if that rubbed off on his daughter, even moreso if she also has the answer-talker ability.
3. It makes sense for Kiyo and Dufort to be close, since their partners are brothers and Dufort helped train Kiyo in the answer-talker ability, so it follows that Kiyo would have met his daughter.
4. Dufort's backstory was about being abandoned and mistreated as a child, and the end of his story in the original series was about him rediscovering his humanity. It makes sense for this series to give him a daughter to show much he's changed.

But isn't she too old to be Dufort's daughter tho? unless he adopted her and taught her answer talk (which i think is the reason why she went to the hospital to help)

I think it's said like 14 years passed, so it'd work? Zatch I think said he's 19 in the early chapters, so at LEAST 10 years had passed

Yeah, she may be adopted. He was abandoned by his parents, so he would want to adopt a child so they wouldn't have to suffer like he did. I would bet on her being adopted.

I think 13 years passed between the start of the first series and the start of this series. The first series spans around two years, so Dufort would have had about 11 years to have a kid. If he had a kid right away, maybe it would have been possible. She'd have to be at least a year younger than Vino.

and Momon.... Well, can't expect any less from how he ended up looking! I'm glad he seems to have grown up a lot over the years, though. A continuation of the development we saw shortly before his book was burned. I'm also still gonna ship him with Tio, so I hope we'll get to see them interact a lot later on XDDDD
