They're not all exactly the same age lol. The rule was just that they had to be non adults. The core cast were mostly super young, Gash, Tio, Kanchome, Umagon, and Brago for sure were about the same age. But Barry, for instance, was clearly already a teenager equivalent then.

Gash Cafe says he was 7 (if we don't count the time he spent sealed) and the final chapter of the original series had him in the same grade as Gash and the others

It also mentioned one of Brago's favorite foods is grilled squid, make of that what you will.
