This chapter is basically a full flashback about Lizel. It went from happy party to sad & traumatized party real quick. Don’t worry, Lizel, MC will definitely do whatever it takes to pull off the whole “I can fix you” route :meguuusad:

I’ll share a short spoiler summary for Light Novel Volume 1. I actually wanted to share the full Volume 2 spoilers in this one long comment too, but it wouldn’t fit :nyoron: for LN Volume 2 and LN Volume maybe later for the next chapter.

★ POV Lizel
Lizel first met Wolka when he was still a kid. She saw a young boy surrounded by wolf monsters in the middle of the forest. When Lizel was about to save him, it turned out Wolka could defeat those monsters all by himself.

From that meeting, Lizel noticed that Wolka’s Physical Strengthening magic was a total mess. And when she asked how he had such a huge amount of mana, Wolka casually answered that he just forced himself to keep using mana until it ran out. That shocked Lizel, because doing that could seriously put Wolka’s life in danger.

In the end, Lizel became Wolka’s magic teacher. Wolka had a hard time understanding things when taught through theory, but once it came to practice, he could immediately master whatever Lizel taught him.

Since Wolka was Lizel’s first student, she offered him to go adventuring together with her.

★ POV Atri
Atri first met Wolka when she was adventuring alone. She heard someone calling for help in the forest, and when she went there to help defeat the monsters surrounding them, someone else suddenly appeared to help too, Wolka.

Even though it was their first time meeting, their fighting styles matched really well, and they supported each other perfectly. Atri became interested in Wolka’s beautiful and powerful swordsmanship, so she wanted to go adventuring together with him.

Atri was actually carrying out the final mission of her clan, which was to go on a solo adventure. She was told to find someone who, in her own heart, would be worth sacrificing her life for.

Atri’s warrior clan is supposed to be the shield that protects their party. But when they fought the Grim Reaper, she could only stand there and do nothing. She could not protect her party members. All she could do was watch Wolka get badly injured while fighting to protect her.

Because of that, Atri made up her mind. She decided that Wolka was the person worthy enough for her to risk her life for.

★ POV Yulitia
Yulitia was born into a fairly wealthy family, and everyone in her family became knights. Since she was little, she had always loved swords.

But when she fought against her older siblings, at first Yulitia was easily defeated. After several matches, though, she became able to copy all of her opponent’s sword skills.

This made Yulitia’s parents extremely proud of her, and they saw her as a genius. But to her two older siblings, Yulitia was just stealing the sword techniques they had worked so hard to learn.

Because of that, Yulitia was bullied and abused by her siblings, until she became traumatized by swords. When she entered school, she chose a magic school so she would not have to meet her siblings.

But her love for swords did not just disappear. One day, when she was about to train alone in the garden, she saw a young man practicing swordsmanship by himself, Wolka.

She was amazed by Wolka’s sword style, which was different from anything she knew. It was a sword style where the sword stayed inside the sheath from the very beginning. It was completely different from the swordsmanship Yulitia had seen before.

Unable to hold back her curiosity, Yulitia approached Wolka and tried to observe his sword style up close. After watching him several times, Yulitia tried it herself and managed to use Wolka’s sword style, even though it was still not as perfect as Wolka’s.

When Yulitia finally realized what she had done, she became scared that Wolka would hate her, just like her older siblings did. But instead, Wolka was happy that someone acknowledged his swordsmanship and even tried to learn the same thing as him.

★ When Yulitia saw that Wolka had lost his left leg, she was devastated. The sword was the one thing Wolka truly loved, and because she could not help him fight the Grim Reaper, Wolka lost his future as a swordsman.

That made Yulitia decide that she would keep staying by Wolka’s side and never leave him.

★ Since this is getting too long, just read the rest yourself, lol. Basically, every time a character appears, there will always be a part showing just how amazing Wolka is. It honestly makes your eyes burn, because every scene is genuinely touching.

Volume 1 ends with Wolka and his party, together with Saint Anze and the Holy Knight, heading toward the capital where Wolka’s basecamp is located.

But this is not just a normal trip, because they are also doing a quest along the way. The person who gave them the quest is actually trying to trap Wolka’s party.

Wolka and his party members already knew from the start that it was a trap, but they still went along with it because they wanted to save the female adventurer who was being threatened and used as bait to lure Wolka’s party in.

oh sweetheart this isnt anyone's fault
wrong, an apprentices safety is a masters responsibility

She should’ve known the risks involved with a ‘cleared’ dungeon, and how little that guarantees. She’s >100 years old? Is all that experience just for show?

Of any of the girls she’s the most at fault. It was her ineptitude that took wolcas eye, leg, and future from him- the demon was just the means which she’s done it with, instead of a knife

She's so cute until she talks. Good art and writing synergy there, for an adaptation.
Having a very Confiteor moment there at the end as she mea culpas away about her most grievous fault, huh?

Picturing this coming from the new character, "Osha the hi-vis wizard," in his impact-resistant pointy hat.

It feels pretty silly that she couldn't find any apprentices before him just because she looks like a child, even though she's powerful.

Much like how all the girls feel guilty about the MC's current state, I think this story suffers from the author wanting to create specific situations without bothering to find a believable way to set them up.

She did the best she could with the information available at the time. The dungeon had been marked as cleared and the guild had already sent a team to confirm that. They tripped a hidden trap that transported them to a hidden boss room.

Adventuring is a risky business and nobody is perfect.

If you want to blame anyone, blame the writer of the manga this world is based on.

The "cleared" dungeon still having the Grim Reaper boss is actually a big scandal on the guild, as explained in the novel.
So yes, it's not her fault. It's the party who surveyed the dungeon's fault. They intentionally sabotaged the report.

By the way, about Wolca's "future"
Bro eventually reached the point he can cut through everything he wants to cut, ignoring visual, ignoring distance, from kneeling position. Yeah he's fking Vergil lmao.

But this is a misunderstanding novel, so while he's happy about the peak swordmanship (that results from his sole idea of "awesome") while internally complaining about the mangaka being sadistic towards his own creation, everyone else thinks that he laments his future and hates the unfair world and the gods and what's not. That's why the girls became unwell, as the title said.

No one stole the future from anyone, if anything the encounter unlocked his potential. And the harem too, I supposed.

Still readable, but quite a few typos.

100 hundred

day instead of die

Her tsundere act also makes her look childish, so it's more than looks.

It definitely could use a little bit more setup and fleshing out, I agree, but it's not that unbelievable. Even if she's a powerful centennial mage, she (seemingly) doesn't have any achievements to prove herself among her peers. In part because she's avoided and looked down upon, and thus wasn't able to form a proper party and conquer dungeons before she met Wolca. It's a vicious cycle.

Also, it might be an adaptation and/or artstyle issue. The face style the mangaka uses makes Lizelarte looks like a short young adult. You can also see it applies to Yuritia, she looks like a standard 15-16 years old highschooler from other mangas, but here she's barely 13. The LN art and descriptions portray them more accurately, in that they look much, MUCH younger.
