Best guess is that she can’t tell him YET who she is…maybe because she thinks his entire personality or something will change if he does know now. Seems he is needed for something bigger and him knowing she is there might change the outcome. Also, if I remember correctly, they loved each other in some romantic sense in their past lives, it could also be that if he knew he would be chasing a romantic relationship with her and that could also affect the outcome.

Or she is just too cowardly to tell him.

whatever he said to his sister 100% doesn't warrant being smacked in the face as a response esp since it looks like hes 4 and under in that flashback.

Most likely Fai was searching for "someone" of his past life, then he grab his sister thinking she was that someone (maid with her is even blushing a little, like saying "that's your cute little brother")then realizing she is not and throw a tantrum saying she "is not", hurting her with his words (sister have tears in her eyes) and she in turn hitting him
