Wow. Actually felt disgusted by the MC.
I totally see why he did it. The "pretending I'm chill about it and it's not a big deal." The guy's in high school. This behavior is normal. Doesn't mean I don't find it absolutely stupid. Still hate him.

Not sure how to feel about girl's reaction. After overhearing MC bit, she decides to call it a dare. Doing that undoubtedly hurts the other party. On one hand, I actually no longer care the MC got hurt in this situation. On the other, his perspective is sound.

From a writing perspective, pretty shocked that he wrote that bit in the first place. How it normally goes is its written that the "MC is in the right (his chill play unrevealed)." Then it's revealed from girl's perspective the full story.

Ok I see a lot of people saying mc is spinless but i disagree. He is allowed to not a 100% certainty when it comes to accepting a confession. just because she confessed to him, doesn't mean he has the answer on the spot. He said inside he was ecstatic, that does not imply he was going to reject her, he was just wasn't sure what he wanted to do. it'd be awkward if everyone was pressuring you to just go out with a girl but you weren't fully sure of your own feelings. She is an asshole for lying to him.Yea it sucks that She heard that he didn't feel like they were a good fit, but to turn it around and tell him it was dare to confess to him was a dick move. She would rather put him down and lie to him rather taking a honest response, even if it was a honest reject.

Dude are we reading the same thing? You need to understand why she do that tho, mc basically talk about her behind her back, brag about that, and try too make himself look better to his friends. The problem are not being rejected dude.

Yeah, completely undermining the protagonist's worldview and motive at the end of the SECOND volume is a really interesting move. Going from "poor guy" to "okay fuck you, man" is kind of bold! It doesn't seem to have impacted the trajectory of the story, though.

I would've loved to see a switch in perspectives after that reveal, or something to shake up the structure here after the core conceit was basically obliterated from space.

Well the guy is 90% at fault here, but she could’ve said: « I love you but we should focus on our entrance exams, so let’s talk about it after we’re done with them okay? » and voila
Nah this is not on her, this is all on that spineless poor excuse of a man we call MC, the studying thing was just an excuse for him

Exactly, she was not about to allow herself to be played like that, so she took the initiative and called that confession a dare

That's what dumbass MC gets

I don’t think I’ve ever just turned around and hated a mc before until this chapter fully on him people can use the excuse of he’s young he could’ve stayed quite about the relationship it’s all on him.
That excuse never flies with me, he deserves his downfall

well.. when i first saw the glimpse of drama that will spice this already plain story (just be honest guys, you all just here for the fan service) the author manage to lose the momentum cause of shitty writing.. i mean how in the world the MC blaming the girl and said she was heartless, after we've been shown that he is just some spineless coward but manage to brag to his friends that THE PRETTIEST GIRL IN SCHOOL confessed to him, it makes the reason why the girl said it was just a dare game a fair response... what a mess

All that mystery just for the cause of his trauma be his own dickheadedness, maybe don't talk down on someone who confessed to you then pretend to be the victim later.

It's kind of impressive just how hard Izumi fumbled this backstory. Why the fuck would anyone care about Kiyota 'growing past his trauma' when it was this minor...? Oh no, a girl who you were being wishy-washy with and slandered behind her back decided to break it off with a lie(?)! What a horrible loss. If it was that the girl was legitimately horrible and made him the 'laughingstock of the school' for thinking she was serious or some shit, it would've at least justified him being wary of relationships in general, but this? This is the most cry-me-a-river bullshit I've ever seen. I genuinely don't give a shit about him 'growing past his trauma' anymore lmao.

And it isn't even like what he said is 'justifiable' in any sense. If Kiyota wasn't a piece of shit, all he'd have to do is say something like, "I don't know if I'm ready to be in a relationship. I'm not sure about my own feelings, and I don't want to meet her confession with a half-assed answer." But instead of he decided to laugh her off and say it's beneath him... That SHE is beneath him. Katsuragi making up some shit about it being a 'dare' is small fries in comparison to what he did, whether or not she was there to hear him slander her.
