There's a lot of gut reactions to the NEET villain and his group of maladjusted losers, but I think that's the point. Same as the Manager who believed he was King Shit of Fuck Mountain. Some people, when put into extreme situations, become better people and live up to their potential, like Akira, and some are such irredeemable scum that when push comes to shove, they'll bury a knife in your back. Akira wants to live up to his potential, and Higurashi wants to wallow in his own bullshit. You're not supposed to like him. You're not supposed to think he's deep or nuanced. They even say as much in this chapter when he explains that he's angry that Akira smiled a lot while he was in college and everyone just says, "That's it? That's dumb."

The most insane plot twist would be if Akira dies and this guy becomes the new protagonist.

I would welcome that to some extent just as a novelty, but as a sane human being I despise people like him.

@Darklight99 Imagine if you were playing a survival game. you had to eat every now and then, drink every now and then...but you also gotta sleep, and destress, and.....piss and poop when you have too, and watch out on how much sugar you eat... and worry about all these illnesses. you should get my point, games like these dont exist because they're not FUN. just because you can make something as realistic as possible, doesnt mean its good, worrying about food and water is good enough.

Likewise, yes losers like this exist in real life, but does that make for a good ficticious villian? I mean...maybe if you're good enough at writing, but its unlikely, and the author isnt pulling it off. people here know idiots like him exist, that doesnt mean this arc suddenly becomes enjoyable, in fact the idea of this amazing village that we built up, and possibly akira's dad dying to this loser and his gang of nobodys is just.....a waste.

Man, villains who commit evil because life didn't hand them chocolate every day of their lives on a silver platter are the second-worst villains after those who are only in it for sadistic shits and giggles. They are uninspired and lack depth. "Hurrdurrdurr life has been mean to me so now I want to see the world burn" is so lame and infantile. Maybe, just as the whole superhero spiel, they are trying to appeal to some middleschool kids who like this simple black-and-white crap?
I just find it utterly boring and quite possibly so far the weakest part of the manga. Can't wait for this to be over, no matter how. I hope they won't become a lasting antagonist or, even worse, get converted to the good side by the magical power of friendship and stupid speeches.
