I was half believing that the mangaka is going to make the Set Characters more or less background characters that will be shown in one panel and be forgotten. Also I thought that cover photo was just a joke to make them seem more important than they really are. but it seems the mangaka was serious after all.

that manager. why does it seem his design is like a genderswap of yamada? the mangaka even tried to portray his face reactions like yamada does when shes flustered.

I really hope we are not setup for Ichi thinking he needs to keep his distance from Yamada for the good of her career. I have seen that plot before and feel it is utterly stupid.
I hope we're going the Rascal Does Not Dream route, where their relationship is discovered, life is even more hellish for Icchi for a bit, then things settle right back down again.

I hope not. Pseudo time travel doesn't exist in this world.
If Yamada dies, Ichi won't be able to reverse it
Then again, It's been pointed out she isn't an amazing actress. She hasn't had a leading role in anything, just bit parts and background stuff. Be kinda funny if it gets out at school and absolutely nobody cares, and it doesn't even make news on the trashy gossip sites.

I actually think that would be pretty fitting for this series.

I have known of treacheries such as stealing you coworker’s food

Trust me, if you have the slightest hint of empathy, you’d know that’s not a mistake to be taken lightly

Between her name and her features, either in manga or anime, Nico Kouda could very well be taken as a czech model.

The thing is... you can't say for sure they're genderswapped- the wiki claims the gender of Suwa Yuki, the manager, is ambiguous. Ichikawa just assumes they're a 'pretty-boy', and the way Japanese works, you can't tell based on how other characters talk about them- the gendered pronouns are added in the translation into English, far as I'm aware. I believe the most direct translation of the words that usually show up where gendered prounouns are in the translation is 'this person' or 'that person', so Yamada never actually indicated that Yuki was a man or a woman. The translation by /a/ actually maintains the ambiguity in that bit of dialog from the original Japanese, it looks like.

Their figure isn't especially masculine, nor is it distinctly feminine, and you could totally see a professional woman dress that way.

The Japanese voice actor does a pretty good job of sounding effeminate, as well, so that doesn't help make it clear, either.

Far as I can tell, Norio explicitly designed the character to have an unclear gender.

Spent the other comment talking about the manager character specifically, but... I want to talk about some of the other things that happened here. Like Anna being defensive about Kyo possibly being scouted by Yuki, it felt like. Clearly, she doesn't want to drag him into her line of work (maybe she understands it would be overwhelming for him, especially with how he's been for as long as she's known him?), but she's happy to have him observe it.

Also the editor asking about a girl he likes when she should realize the girl he likes is probably sitting right next to him feels like a completely unaware character. Like... they do know Anna is also a middle school kid, right? And this is probably her classmate that she brought on the site because they're close. The manager figured it out (Yuki made a good assumption, but jumping the gun a few months ahead of when they officially consider themselves as going out, I believe), but I will admit Yuki does seem to be one of those hyper-aware types.

Our first look at Nico. She's a funky character. And she seriously thinks Anna is really that cool and collected? To be fair, at work she's probably pretty good at presenting herself as such, but she's still such a child. Something Kyo willfully ignores every time he calls her mature and himself immature. He's more mature than he gives himself credit, but it's that lack of self-esteem that admittedly contributes to his childishness (not going to say it's the only thing, or the main thing, necessarily, but it does contribute significantly enough), while Anna's childishness comes from other traits.

Anyway, I know Nico shows up later for quite the drama defusal moment. I won't say more than that.

So yeah, the whole thing with show business and dating... I get the thing, I also get the reference BriGuy made about Rascal Does Not Dream. That wouldn't be a bad solution, really, especially if Anna stays a relatively minor celebrity as she is, instead of being as well-reknowned as Mai in the Rascal series, and the fact that her relationship with Sakuta ended up mostly unaffected, in the end, by the public revelation that she's dating someone seems like pretty good news for our cute pair here. A bit of chaos for a bit, but there's nothing wrong with a bit of chaos every now and then, and considering this story's track-record, it would be short-lived drama, if it causes drama.

The main substancial difference here is Mai Sakurajima chose clearly an actress path, so, while a scandal ensured, her decision was finally respected, maybe because conditions for actresses are more lax. Anna Yamada, instead, has still a lot of options: gravure model, fashion model, idol, actress... not even she knows what she wants for her career and she has the added problem that her decision, whatever she takes, will undoubtedly impact her relationship with Ichikawa. For all we know, Ban on romance is not just a possibility, but a probability.
