The appearance of an orc here with a square of narration text "kill or be killed" is so... disappointing.

Both for the genericness / lack of worldbuilding depth, and for how we're, after showing him practicing practical survival for most of the chapter, seemingly encouraged to immediately abandon all thought and go into "hurr durr see enemy fight it" RPG mode.

Now, if I were the author, I'd say "Well, he would have gotten parasites, but that was before he chomped down enough cyanide to kill an elephant. Tapeworms don't like deadly poison either. His microbiome is fucked tho, nobody gave it poison resistance."
