The bizarre identity crisis this has where the protagonist is explicitly not interested in the target of his affection being a girl, but there's a bunch of tentatively-borderline-homophobic "it's not gay I just like him" framing where for instance 'it's fine so long as it's cute', etc, is both fascinating and depressing.

So like, I'm assuming this takes place in an actual game considering how the best friend character says that things will reset if a 'bad end' is achieved.

But like, is this an isekai scenario, are they just self aware A.I., or are they both chunni nerds playing pretend? Neither of them seem particularly bothered by the whole 'game world' thing, so maybe it's like the real world was given dating sim rules for whatever reason?

I hope this aspect isn't just glossed over and is actually explored at least a little bit, since it is acually kind of interesting.
