at first it seemed like a story about suicide, but by the way ren smiled at the end, i can see it's actually a story about hope.

that "let's die together, okay?" is grim, but it comes across as a reassurance. "i promise i'm not wasting your time mindlessly." and "i promise i need this too".

You know friendship between women also exist. I know it's a concept that a lot of people tend to forget, women include but it really exist.

Saying that the happiest time of your life was when you shared with someone of the same gender or keeping something that reminds you of that time you share with that person is enough to make you gay... So we can consider that everyone is gay ! Even you most homophobic persons you know are gay.

And of course you would want to spend some times with that person when you are at the lowest times in your life and you even atemp to kill yourself.

For now, in the first chapter, we don't know if they are gay. No one confess to the other, no one show that they had some hidden feelings for the other, they can be straight, bi, pan or ace we don't know. Narratively speaking we don't know. You are interpreting their actions.
For now, the story is more center about depression, loneliness than sexuality.

And having the GL tag doesn't automatically defined the characters as gay. So wait and see.

Yes I'm so sorry, it's just that whenever I go hanging out outside or online or watch a random film or read a random book, I always see women making out instead of being friends, women being friends is just that rare so I forgot it exist 😔

The 3 chapters previously "translated" still linger in the corners of the net. They were translated by someone who didn't know either Japanese or English and then just stopped at 3 chapters. If they were here, they've been apparently removed. tbh, they were a disaster. They even thought that Ren was a guy and the typesetting was horrid.

About Japanese custody law, the courts tend to favor granting one parent custody instead of preferring split custody like the US. There has apparently been a shift in recent times with more courts favoring split custody but that is still only a minority of situations. With that said, she doesn't necessarily have to have done something horribly egregious to have lost custody as would be the case in the US, the court would likely have just decided the father was the more appropriate caregiver for the child
