The two countries used to be at war. In recent year it's relatively peaceful, mostly because Scudetto (MC's hometown) was an impenetrable fortress that managed to fend off all attacks. Given its importance as the country's bulwark, it was no wonder that MC's father felt disappointed that his son's ability seemed to be unfit for warfare.

The act of aggression however isn't stupid, just the prince is.

They have been preparing for another invasion for a long time, with multi-pronged attack happened simultaneously in several places. Because this prince is too incompetent and doesn't have much political power, they assigned him to attack a village in middle of nowhere so that he wouldn't get in the way. Nobody expected that he ended up being the leak of their invasion plan.

Just because it's a dragon doesn't mean it's strong. And most of the time, wyverns aren't counted as true dragons. No idea about this setting, though.

No, it is said earlier while wyvern doesn't have capabilities of a dragon, it is still quite strong.

The difference here is our boy manage to make ballista with armor piercing bolts.

So it turns into something like shooting a chicken with a gun.
