More glamorizing and glorifying toxic industry practices that are all about controlling the agency of a person so you can create unhealthy attachment and a sense of ownership in the fans and sell more tickets and merch.
It's gross that the world functions this way. We know that parasocial relationships are unhealthy, so it's bad for the fans. We know that forcing people to live in such a regimented and restricted way that denies them the ability to undergo basic human experiences is unhealthy, so it's bad for the idols. The only people this structure is good for is the industry ghouls profiting off of the talent of young people and the sales to fans, all while they purposefully manipulate both of them.
Instilling a sense of ownership and entitlement, that the idol or star is single, is all about nourishing a small idea in the mind of fans that lets them fantasize about being The One. They don't need to actually believe it, just the hint of the idea helps them milk the fans more, but it also is part of what enables the creation of more stalkers and obsessed fans engaging in dangerous behavior. It normalizes the sense of ownership, which then makes even more insane behavior less of a jump. We see stalkers, etc. for celebrities in other places where this practice isn't as common, but just not at the rate that it happens for celebrities where this is the norm.
You can have 'plot beats' and drama without normalizing shitty industry practices. And I also agree with everyone else on how Hiruno should handle it. She wants to focus on her career? That's fine. But the expectation shouldn't be that she can take advantage of the fact he likes her and expect him to just wait. The conversation should be "Hey so we both have a thing for each other but I want to focus on my career so a relationship isn't an option," because that's the fair thing to do to someone. If he wants to wait, well, he can make that decision, but you should never just expect someone to put their romantic life on hold for an indefinite period of time without any sort of discussion.
This was cute because it seemed like they were going to sidestep a bunch of this stuff and not glorify shitty industry practices, and that even the manager seemed to be supportive. But so much for that.
