So what im taking away from this is that I should just lie through my teeth, gaslight and makes scenes in front of my partner to make them feel miserable to get what I want without ever having to put myself in a position of emotional vulnerability.

This will carry no consequences if they love me enough, since otherwise it was obviously just not meant to be.

There is still the possiblity this is all unreliable narration and MC is just manipulating her back to get the truth out of her, which if he is - fair game to the author. However if it's not and they're really going down this path - this author has serious issues & has a horribly warped sense of reality. Or they're just a horrible writer.
