One last story left!! This was such a fun ride.

I think "we" might be a photo of the mom, the one that gets displayed in Japanese funerals. Portable, easily hidden, can be dirtied and wiped clean (as shown in an earlier chapter), and based on the shadow this chapter, rectangular. Might also be why the step-mom thought it was creepy of Yuuma to bring it around.

And it makes sense that Yuuma would make it face away if he actually did hang himself in the last pages. The huffing and panting makes me doubt it's a hanging though?

One last candle. The tea is almost ready, the kettle is shrieking. One hundred stories, one hundred candles. To see the thing at the end, that's almost like seeing a blue lantern at the end of a long stretch of murk. Yuma and Hina's fates are sealed, of course, the moment they began to weave the stories. Now - Let's see the end with a smile, shall we?

Wait why is status completed?? No 100 episode?? T_T nah boi ended it? T_T
No, it means the series is completed in Japan. People got confused like you, so maybe the publication date and the status need to be move somewhere else.

Aaaaah! You're right! The 3rd page of chapter 1 also has a rectangle framing the dialogue. I thought it was just a narrator bubble, but it is most likely Yuuma talked to his mother's photo.

So the sound starts with creaking, that might be the chair's sound as Yuuma climb on it.
Then Yuuma's panting, it might be when he is struggling tying the noose.
When he said thank you to Hina, the bubbles are pointing upward.
There is a thunk, and a visual effect of something get hit, that might be Yuma toppling the chair.
Followed by kssh, and crrk (creaking of the wooden support?), and silence....
He ended the ritual before the 100th story....

thanks for the chapter!

ngl it's impressive how Hanako-san, a super popular story, is the 99th one being told. I wonder what the final story is?

also just wanna say that this is my fav ghost story in the series.

If we're taking bets I'm betting Hima makes it through this. Either Yuuma changes his mind and says goodbye to his mom, or he crosses to the other side with her and lets Hima free... Or the real mom-spirit shows up and warns him against whatever this thing in Hima's body is

I know that it's not realy the main thing of the manga, but it always gets me thinking about the huge amount of suferring so many children have to endure in this planet. Yuuma was traped in sadness and abuse, that lead him to a dangerous and violent path, Hina tryied to help her friend and also got hurt. So many have to endure in silence or have to growup very fast to deal with the world and responsibilities, but i guess that's just how things are.

Thanks for the translations!

Had a complete reread just now, mostly to make sense of Yuuma's overarching story. Wasn't exactly what I hoped it to be but it is interesting.
The title itself referring to Hina is plausible, big part of it is due to the opening of the 1st chapter is told in Hina's perspective when she saved Yuuma from suicide with the legend of 100 Ghost Stories. Yuuma from the start is trying to summon his biological mother, and the theory of "us" (the camera perspective) being a photo of Yuuma's mother might ring true. The shadow in this manga is square, and in the 1st chapter when Yuuma first spoke it was a speech bubble inside an upright square frame.
Yuuma had 2 photos of his mother, one is burned by Hina by chapter 80 where his mother finally managed to possess Hina.
It does seem that the ghosts cannot be there without physical medium. First it was through Umakin (the horse plushie) and now it's through Hina.
Anyone that tries to stop the ritual is cursed with bruises, and touching the photo directly seems to count. The policeman got cursed and killed, Kido got cursed twice (the first he cleansed himself with a straw doll) and Hina got cursed once (Kido took over her curse and died).
Yuuma's biological mother stabbed the stepmother with a pencil when she berated Yuuma in front of the photo, which was entertaining lmao.
Though, I dont really know who the figure in black that sometimes appear supposed to be. I think it's just a ghost summoned in the 100 ghost stories, but I might be missing something.
Real curious to see how the story wraps up. Issa fun ride throughout!

Yeah I dont believe whatever is in Hina's body is actually the mom. Just like in this story, where the girl thought the set of hands were her sister's when her real sister actually stops the set of hands from pulling her in.

I think mc sort of knows or was in denial at first that that's not his mom. A real kind mother I wouldnt think of being okay to take over a young girl's life, particularly your son's best friend who loves your son, and would want your son to move on.
"we" could still be the mom in the photograph watching this all unfold.

Just a theory ofc. And damn I really hope he didn't hang himself at the end but yall are selling it to me. Looking forward to the last chapter

Hanako-san of the toilet is a toilet-bound entity consisting of two hands, capable of pulling individuals into said toilet with great force.

This ghost may have taken a multitude of victims in the past from how people know about it even now. Maybe it has a shared dimension connected to all haunted sites. Maybe its victims sink after the initial pull, something counteracted by her older sister's sheer will to protect a loved one from this thing that caused her own demise. The younger sister, however, acted rashly despite the opportunity to escape. I guess they're together now, wherever Hanako has pulled them to.

...So what does that tell us about Yuuma? He seems to have left us outside in the grass before going back home.

(Edit: oh silly silly snake. you guys at the comments i swear T T)

I hope Story 100 gives a satisfying end to the overarching plot. I'm invested with these three :meguuusad:
