But I do miss the just plain slice-of-life-y fluff that we had before with just tiny bits of progression.

I know everyone's excited that handsome boy declared wingman status, but he's clearly in love with her. Surely it will come to the surface in the future so don't write off that drama just yet.

Its not like she can hide it from him, its him never cared about romance. He never was able properly develop in that aspect after incident in a flashback. Emotional traumas more often than not prevent people growing after experiencing them, forcing them to be stuck in the past.
We can even draw a parallel in there, he would never outgrow her while still brooding over it. Hence they heights starts to change when kohai introduced in the story.

Thats a fair interpretation, i was more talking about how she would turn away whenever she made a lovestruck expression or was embarassed to keep up her cool guy persona, but i did a quick reread and that didnt actually happne as much as i thought it did lol.

Did the author just erase most of the previous chapters plot? I thought they were on the same page of liking each other already and just at the what to do next stage?

Not only the previous plot, pretty much 90% of what was established character, relationship and story-wise was dropped.

His trauma? Gone in a chapter. The random girl is a better reason to overcome it than Ibuki.
Ibuki declaring that with all her might she will make him fall? Scratch that. Zero effort for 5 chapters to go on a tailing mission with her stalker but he is hot so whatever (that guy just always appears to fuck with them! Such a wingman!)

Like, what a joke of a chapter was this? Him all cool putting his hat and coat on her… to self insert into the situation and tail them without disguise.
Next chapter just confirms EVERYTHING he does is to cause more misunderstandings and push them further apart/fuck with MC, evil mastermind type.

But he is a wingman god!! because.. erm, he wrote a lie on paper.. wicked
