It will be funny if MC is the one to kill the demon lord and the public knows about it. Imagine for years the Hero and replacement Saintess were useless. Then some Alarune popped up and did their job (funny more if people started "questioning" the ACTUAL Fate of the Previous Saintess or someone recognizes FMC despite abit of alternate look changes. Especially after she kills the Demon Lord! Really will make people QUESTION what REALLY HAPPENED but suffice to say it will be their heads for wasting peoples hopes and time, especially the Kouhai who will likely receive a witch burning, the fate of all "fake Saintess" since she really is a "Witch in Nun clothing")

In the WN, she actually first encounters the treant before this point. While she was burning from the dragon's magic flame. It just suddenly reveals itself to have been one of the other trees in the clearing the entire time, and then promptly abandons her. That's why she initially gets the idea to eat it, as payback (and she definitely would have if Kiri hadn't interrupted).

The manga isn't a 1-1 adaption, so it's understandable, but it can still feel a little jarring when they have to rewrite events in a way that accounts for leaving some stuff out.

Anyway, I haven't seen the raws, but I just realised what's probably going to happen in the next few chapters. That'll certainly be.... Interesting.

I actually went back to check back when the poster stated this and yeah, when she was with that Boy in the chapter, that's how she found out about how much time has passed, and that her Kouhai married the Hero but is preventing him from doing his job and they've just stand still! Hence as the poster said "useless!" MC was ANGRY that she was essentially "killed for nothing" as her killer didn't do ANYTHING of note and likely she & the Hero are losing the public's PATIENCE and why I myself would find it FUNNY if SHE is the one to kill the Demon Lord.....and that asshole dragon that tried to burn her to death! Nothing says IRONIC Karma Death then being killed by someone you THOUGHT you horribly killed all because you "didn't stay to CONFIRM the kill and just ASSUMED it happened only to DIE horribly to someone who "should be dead" LOL!
