I was confused about this last chapter, I think the author skipped something important because she is messing wit us. We will get an answer eventually like with most things on this series.

I mean Sentarou being a suicidal character and Kinuko being unaware of his situation will explain many ambiguous parts in earlier volumes, even the very first chapter.
