This is pretty fast? It's still chapter 3 and it's already the toxin / evil master arc(?). This feels like this will end in 20ish chapter?

I'm so glad this is getting the actual story it deserves.

Doesn't poison usually not lay dormant like that for days before having a reaction...?

There's an explanation after this; though I still find it to be a bit of a stretch, it is somewhat plausible.

I was sent back to re-read the web comic version and one thing was clear: the reason why I felt like none of these pages were foreign to me at all despite it having 20+ pages while the original web comic was 1-2 page(s) a chapter. it's a combination of multiple original chapter is one thing, but mainly was the web comic version exposition was crayyyyyzyyyyyy.

For a poison found in nature, then yes it would normally be fast-acting to fulfill its role.

In a fantasy setting though, we can just say that an alchemist managed to develop a poison with time lag so by the time anyone finds out, the assassin has already left the country.

IIRC from the Original Webcomic, the poison was put in a capsule or something that took time to digest or break and release the poison. That way, they could put a lot of time and distance between them and her before it took effect.

Ahhh.. okay. I read the other one, not sure if it was the webcomic.. anyway the one that had like.. 1 page each chapter or whatever. I guess I just forgot.

That is some very slow working poison. Enough time for her to be sold, carried to the apothecary’s house, treated for a bit, get dentures made, eat, then finally start showing symptoms of the poisoning. At that rate, the poison should pretty much already be out of her system.
