are we sure the translation is correct?

it's still a common (sad) misconception in certain mainstream narratives (and manga) to link homosexuality with pedofilia and/or abuse, so that might be the source for this phrase to somehow be produced (probably with good intentions/ignorance from the author/editor)

anyway, i personally feel this sentence is just unnecessary and hurtful... and of doubtful taste
there could be so many funny and quality light-hearted jokes to say that he's unable to imagine himself as a parent/carer/teacher/guardian/...
and i mean as an adult i would be triggered into asking some questions to a person making such a comment, so i'm surprised the main character does not react...

i already felt that the depiction of the romance lf the two male character was a bit out of touch, so i guess this kind of blunder was always possible

and there are many ways to play a supportive role for a child, apart from adoption, as an adult in a given society, if that is your wish
