Edit: Also, now that I think about it, isn't the Star Maiden's ending kind of poetic? As the Star Maiden she was supposed to pray and help the less fortunate while not being a whore. She was forced into a role she didn't want/hates but supposed to do just like how she forced Emi into the villainess role she was supposed to have in the game.

Excellently written story that kept to the main plot and didn’t stray into side stories, which is unusual for a Japanese LN.
The manga was also to the plot and beautifully illustrated, with the translators doing an excellent job to reveal the nuances of the language.
Remilia’s manga story should end with the epilogue, but we may see her in Anime form, as the manga came 8th in AnimeJapan’s recent “Manga We Want to See Animated 2025” contest.

It's been a while since I read it, so I can be wrong. But Pina ending was more brutal in the book.
At first, she was sentenced to death, but Remi plead for her, she then officially sends to labor instead. Her tongue was cut, and she wasn't particularly guarded either, a lot of prisoners are people who got scammed by her, so she quickly became a target of frustration.
Rape, torture, and heal just enough to not die is her new casual day. There were excellent healers put in place to take care of her and make sure whatever the prisoner did, she won't die. She was burned, disfigured and more, but she is still the only woman the prisoners can get, so it continues.

I guess that was too hardcore to show in the manga

Pina's vocal chords were burnt out. Presumably by shoving a red hot bar down her throat. As a result, she couldn't talk; only wheeze and croak. Her being used as a sex slave is right, the miners were mostly those who had been impacted by her crap so they were more than willing to take it out on her. Oh, she was sterilised and they knew it.

She was given the absolute bare minimum to survive, but elixirs were also being used to ensure that she would continue to live in that hellish routine. Eventually she became desensitised to the daily abuse, so Remilia had the idea to use her dream manipulation magic to stir her soul, so to speak, and offer tiny glimpses of a better life. Only so that the weight of reality can have something to bite into.


IMHO, rape is never OK as a form of punishment or as a weapon. There are other ways to convey a dehumanising form of punishment that are less morally objectionable or queezy. This alternative where she's stuck in a cage where she can't even stretch properly and stand, while being covered in a permanent foul smelling darkness and treated as a buff bot is a pretty good one.

Which is exactly why they're in a crevice outside the world. Remilia's justification is that they do not deserve to be in the same world as Emi had graced.

Anyhow, their souls were being treated like putty. Pulled out, manipulated, shoved into different objects and things. Just seeing what can and can't be done. Still don't think that compares to the Nazarrick Deluxe Package.

Their method of getting to this point is a bit different to the WN. Here they were spirited away in a clandestine action so they're missing, presumably dead but there's the possible alternative narrative that they escaped to a different jurisdiction. In the WN, they (as in everyone who collaborated to give false testimony for the original condemnation) were trialled, written off as dead (they were socially dead anyhow by lying against a ducal household), then handed over to Remilia for her to do whatever in liue of executing them. There were also other test subjects who were all death row inmates, so there were more than just two.

The realization she had as "Oh... that would be lovely too" as I imagine she came up with the idea of becoming a mother, and as a mother, showering her baby with love and affection promising to make her the happiest girl in the world had me in tears

Yes Emi's soul becomes their daughter, if I recall she doesn't have her memories though cause she was basically reborn.

And Pina's original soul becomes their child as well, basically just like Remilia, the original Pina felt everything the phoney did.
Og was so disgusted with what phoney has done as a woman she wanted to be reborn as a man.

oh god the series is actually over lmao. But lmao Angel coming in clutch with falling in love with the Emi Remellia had fallen in love with and emulated for so long. I was wondering how they'd wrap that up since Remellia didn't truly seem all that interested in Angel, but finding a common love in the Remellia's Emi is frankly a brilliant way to wrap that up.
