Well bandits sort of depends on the context. Most cases they go by the Fire Emblem convention where bandits are these organized crime groups comprised of burly men. Most of the time though, it's just farmers who got taxed and decided banditry was their only way. Which is why properly managed countries, public order never really slips and this stuff tends to never happen.

Anyways, back to the story. MC really gotta look at it from a commoner perspective and how regardless of their situation, gotta kill the bandit then drag their corpses to a local constable to claim a bounty on them.

While I agree not everyone is a bloodthirsty killer, what he did to the wolves was also pretty aggressive and brutal. While not everyone can kill, not everyone can but down an animal. Yes when push comes to shove you believe you can but that's the same thing for people who will try to kill people you care about. I get not wanting to kill on purpose but that type of thinking should be included for the monsters in this world too. Killing an animal (wolf/dog in this context) isn't easy but still very doable, same thing for people. It's a bit of a peeve for me when stories have characters who don't want to kill (and never lived lives where they needed to anything), kill animals/monsters so easily like it's breathing but the moment it's a person they struggle like you asked them something neigh impossible.

The MC is a grown ass man, he needs to grow a pair, maybe if his loved ones get killed in front of him he'll realize what it takes to protect them
