I mean, there are cases where both parties would go "I know it's an act, you know it's an act, but we can both pretend for our mutual benefit". Of course, there are some nobles that are written like they actually believe the child would be thankful for the sudden 180 or not suspect anything is amiss, but even that is something you rarely see. It's mostly "Damn you child I didn't bet on, why did you have to be the winning bet?"

Oh for sure. Gotta love the parent who suddenly think eveything's forgotten because their kid turned out useful to them, and yeah, there's sometimes reason for mc to play along with that if both sides can benefit, though even then, there's seldom trust between them. Both sides likely know what the other is thinking so sooner or later one side will betray the other, even if it's just to avoid getting betrayed themselves
