It’s definitely sad, but I can sorta see why. The ecchi is fine, but I don’t know if there’s as much to prop the rest up.

Honestly in one chapter Asuka became the most compelling character in the whole story. One with real actual conflicts and not "the mc is too masculine to be a girl". She doesn't even really work as an antagonist because he's not going to beat her at being a girl because she is a girl.

Like the way it opens you'd think the lesson would be "learn that gender is flexible and you can be free", but it's "I need to suck some girl energy like an incubus".

No wonder this got axed with how stupid, incompetent and boring the mc is. Just another one of those series where everyone is so much better than mc at everything, but he somehow pulls through because plot demands it.

That’s the crazy part. It would be so easy for Hikaru to gradually meet women who don’t fit the general feminine mindset and realize that just because he needs to be a girl, doesn’t mean he needs to be a girl. Like, maybe he finds a way to perform all his kunoichi skills in his own personal way.

But I don’t think the author wanted to write a manga about seriously exploring gender roles in society, they wanted to write an ecchi manga.

This manga's like 15 years too late to have a protagonist and "plot" like this.
It's like it thought Ayakashi Triangle failed because Matsuri spent too much time as a girl socially.
It's really impossible to have a gb story without meaningfully engaging with the themes and like, it has the set up at least, but somehow failed to follow through on the most basic tenets of the genre.
