I question my negative opinions about goody-two-shoes harem fantasy MCs when I read this manga. I need to reread and dissect for myself why this guy is an exception to the rule.

i think its partly because our guy here is genuinely a hardworking underdog.
most of the time in other stories the goody-two-shoes protagonist are naive to a fault where, either it harms their friends in turn, or reality warps around them and the story just makes the enemy less effective in some way or beats them with the forceful "talk-no-jutsu"

in this case our protagonist isn't bringing harm to his friends, but instead sorta just bringing himself into harm for his friends.

in essence its a difference of butting into issues that are non of them and their friends business.
vs butting into issues of their friends because their friend is their business.

atleast thats what i think? what do you think? i say your negative opinion on those types of protagonists remain valid,
its just that there are more ways than one to approach writing a goody-two-shoes character

Because he isn't facing the consequences those goody two shoes face or should face.

We get frustrated/angry because we know if the MC does his good, kind act in other mangas when he has 0 fucking reason to not kill a complete bastard/opp, it's going to come bite him in the ass, and then it does but the mangaka used their almighty plot armor/writing powers to get over the hurdle.
Which isn't the case here since it's already been established that his mentors(love interests) are so OP, nothing can hurt them or the MC in the world. And that even if some scum like that comes and the MC is passive, you can bet for sure those 3 would make sure the scum wished the MC had killed him instead.
