I really like the main character he has class but he's also an idiot. The only thing I have a problem with is that his family somehow left the maid raise him so much that they're virtually mother and child and we've hardly think the mom.

Like the mom seems to worry about her son but unlike the dad and brother we never see her. Did she really let an entirely different woman raise her kid to this point that she doesn't even know him

I feel like this chapter was meant to highlight the advantage of the special class, but actually proves that it's worthless and a waste of time for the saintess. The solution to her problem was a gamble that she would just be able easily and immediately succeed at a highly difficult research task and assume there's a market for it based on Kunon's false reality. No actual class has been shown so it seems like learning is all self directed. Being forced to generate your own revenue pushes the students to engage only in profitable research, which at best is a gross misunderstanding of research results since most will just be incremental and not individually valuable. This class would be better suited as a reform class for troublemakers as a way to better integrate with society after graduation.

Hopefully Kunon's manner of speaking gets toned done at some point because he's increasingly heading towards the playboy trope which is what you usually give to a character with problematic view towards women.

By what I'm understanding other than researching what the other students and I guess some lectures the special classes already the top of the crop. It's probably why they have to finance themselves they're trying to make them productive members of society than sociopaths. I mean just look at the personality that all of these students have

Hairless Giant Rat, but now with HAIR? :meguupog: sign me the fuck up!
now that i think about it, it's kinda funny that it started off hairless since
(idk if the author intended this)
hairless cats tend to be very clingy bc they dont have the fur to keep themselves warm
and the rat here is being treated like a hug pillow

The problem is that the mom worries too much that it's breaking her, so the family purposefully kept her from Kunon.

You have to remember that the saintess is a special case, the other students can earn money with a normal part-time job but the saintess has to pay for bodyguards and their food/place too, that's why a normal job wouldn't be enough for her, and she could and was offered the chance to go to the normal class where she wouldn't have this problem, plus they gave them all time to see if they could get a job to get the money, otherwise they could just go to the normal class.

Eh, it was never stated that their means to earn money must be the same as their topic of research, or even be magic-related at all. It's nice if they can do both at once, but more than often an incomplete research would be the money pit than a source of income. So the students are supposed to use the skills they're good at to earn their living + funding for other research (money pit x100). That teaches them to be resourceful and put their knowledge to good use instead of studying just for the sake of studying.

Way to make it sound like a brothel Kunon

I assumed they were the fake things made with his water magic so that wouldn't be an issue

agree. i think they left the boy with the servant/maid far too long. there should have been a few people to properly look after and teach kunon instead of just a single maid. i mean, they have no monetary issues since kunon is engaged to a princess (the kingdom would have check and confirm if said household are of proper status and able to support a royal person) so it is out of question that kunon only has one person serving and educating him.

unfortunately all the things she did makes kunon acting ungentlemanly.

That's actually the point of special class, they are deemed above average curriculum, and are encouraged to self study. If they don't show results they get demoted.
The whole income thing is a way to teach them how to survive as a mage, but done in a safe environment.
It's not too different from how a university operates, where most of the lectures are volunteer based, and you get to work in labs. There they are encouraged to do it or fail, if they don't get enough credits

Normally students wouldn't have to do research but she has both expensive mandated servants to pay so she has to earn a lot more, as well on specific restrictions on using her magic for money. This means she has a much harder amount of money to earn, as well as not being able to utilize the talents that most people going to the school would be expected to use.

Now I think there's something to be said about them maybe capping the amount of money the students should earn, but it's also very easy for them to just run with the tough love approach and tell her to just do the easier class.

Kunon is not in the wrong, and no one could ever formulate the argument that would be able to overturn that indisputable fact!

well why change something that work ? Not to mention he's super depressed and want to off himself before knowing about magic too let not gamble. And we do have some tutor to teach him until they have nothing to teach anyway
