asians have a very old-school approach to copyright. It is not money they care about, they'd happily lose money if it meant cracking on piracy for good. Can't do anything about these types except wait for them to die out.
well there is some abysmal demographic projections for south korea and japan... /s

(but I don't think it is as much cultural thing as people say)

We are like 5 years away from kids treating DVDs like VHS tapes. Fuck I'm old

It might have a come back at some point. There is some sort of fascinacion for audio tapes nowadays among young people, which is insane to me. When I got a minidisc I felt so liberated for finally having more than 90 minutes of music with me that I didn't had to record from the radio and doing manual fade when the fucking dj started to talk to avoid people taping, or the stupid tape unravelling because it tripped on the mechanism and I had to pray it wasn't scratched.

MD added a close you need to check that basically means you are saying MD you have permission from IP owner to post this said chapter. Legally MD would not be responsible in case of lawsuit but scanlator will be. No one with sense would want this shit. I guess a lot of scanlators are going to jump ship after this :(
Guess this site will die

oh sweet nostalgia) for me I graduated from tapes straight up to 2GB flash drive walkman, and it was a funny little pink thing) like my old cassette walkman had batteries almost as big as this thing xD and now even it way beyond obsolete (also deader than cassette one, that thing still works!)

(honestly it breaks immersion a lot that this girls are supposed to be a modern day (maybe even a bit in a future it is on a mature Takagi timeline and her younger self had smartphone) yet they found a working dvd player and someone even recorded stuff on some sort of DVD writing camera (must be also old AF))

Yeah, it’s that part that gets me. MangaDex is no stranger to DMCAs - early on I think Viz told them not to have One Piece, MHA, Demon Slayer, OPM, Act-Age, and Househusband scans, and they agreed - but then you could just excuse that because Manga Plus was right there. But now? They pulled down every series they could, including titles that have no official English translation. Even series that were only like two volumes long that nobody would care to license.

I honestly don’t know what their goal is. At least MangaDex had standards - no official scans, links to where you can buy the official releases - but now if someone wants to read a title they’ll just go to mangasee123.com to get aggregate scans. It’ll hit them even more.
If you don't have access to unlicensed series, you'll have more time to read licensed series. Money like always

So it will be only uploaded on Discord? That place isn't exactly trustworthy either as a way to save media.

Need to branch out to multiple upload sites for preservation purposes.
The best shot is torrent for popular series, it has been pretty consistent with me. The problem is it takes a while for people to compile tomes and share them.

…Yeah I'm not joining a discord server.
if it was just a discord server that would be one thing, but I'm definitely not joining 50 different discord servers to keep up with all the series I read.

Edit: You asked if we had better ideas, I can't reply because apparently you can't add more comments to deleted chapters but I'll paste the reply that I wrote here even though I don't expect you'll actually see it.

"Hey I get it from the scanlation teams' perspective. You already have a discord and it's convenient, plus it being private offers some protection. But us the readers don't want to check two dozen different places every day for updates, that's the whole reason aggregators exist and are so immensely popular, right? And on top of that my personal issue with everything moving to discord these days (and this is not limited to manga. it's almost every app, game, or site that used to have a forum) is that it's not indexed by search engines and sooner or later will be lost forever.

If I was part of a scanlation team for a series like this one that wasn't affected by the DMCA strike I'd want to just keep uploading here, make hay while the sun shines. Otherwise I'd upload chapters to some of the many other aggregator sites and make sure my work is preserved by spreading it so widely that it can't all be taken down."

and that is the reason to frag the biggest site, and made everyone scatter. like the whole strategy is to make as many people give up or move on as possible.

The main problem was the fact that for a good number of series, there simply wasn't any translation of them at all outside of Japan or Korea. So the pure fact that they launched a nuke that encroached on these meant that piracy is the only way to read them.
