My suspiscion is that a lot of the unlicensed ones have been licensed by emaqi and will have official releases soon. Cheap licenses with AI/MTL assisted releases most likely.
Also remember that a lot of manga are also licensed in France and other countries than in English, and most Frenchs can read English.
That's logical. Still dickish from them to go after the one-shots.

God I have only been here for like a year and a half.
But In that time I have read so much, commented on many threads.
Made a few friends and can remember many funny conversations.
But above all of that I feel sorry for all the hard working scanners, translators and editors.
That put so much hard work and passion into giving us manga in our native tongue so that we might enjoy them.
And yeah I know a few of you took issue of me always thanking the translators, but I was genuinely thankful each and every time. As they allowed me to enjoy this hobby, which I wouldn't be able to do without this site.
I don't know where things will go from here, as I have seen many good anime and manga sites go down in the past.
But at the very least I hope this site that now seems like a skeleton eventually heals and gets some meat back on its bones.

Thank you to all the Admins, translators and friendly commenters that have made this site so amazing thus far.

Just did a count, 18 series I was currently keeping up with got gotten.
There were more but many of them I had already finished, but in total it was 38 series in total.

So that's that then eh? They're passing the site over to NamiComi and focusing on improving the site for "content creators". No part of that sounds like the site's going to ever recover.
It’s fairly similar to mangahelpers, they didn’t close down but removed all manga, not only the dmca’d ones, and I think they only allow non-English text translations there now. Site is practically dead.
This is kind of embarrassing, I though the site died like ten years ago, but apparently it was in 2010.

Man this frustrating - none of the official sites are even remotely as good as this side. Hell, some don't even offer a dark mode. My list of sadness is 400 titles long and while I know by now that I wouldn't ever be able to read a fraction of them to their end given the nature of mangas and scanlations this still feels like cataclysmic event to me. How do I even export that many titles not to mention the official sites are scattered all over the place, their release slow af and not reliable. A tragedy truly...

"We will continue working on the features that make MangaDex great, to make it an even better platform for content creators."

"Content creators"

Tell me all series will be removed without telling me all series will be removed.

Yup, Mangadex is officially dead.
Yeah, this really seems to be heading in the mangahelpers direction.
Though if mangadex complies to all the dmca’s and switch focus more over to content creators, it could still be a scanlation hub for manga that haven’t been licensed and/or dmca’d I guess.
Though I’m not certain if people are going to want to stay here or not.

I think that the fact they're pushing it to someone else means it being a hub will be a dream.

Like, think about it, Namicomi will want to have profits somehow, they won't keep a site out of the goodness of their hearts, the fact that it outright mention "content creators" is proof of that.

They won't want talks about illegal activities in their sites.

Now if mangadex stayed an a ateuk fan site? Sure, we could keep as a community hub, but no way with the new owners.
