Glad I'm not the only one who noticed. I think it's just an artist fuck up due to perspective. In the later panels where we see her from a normal standing angle they are the same size as usual (still big but not like 50% of her body big).

As far as the progress has been, I hope this lights a fire under Misato's ass to start being proactive instead of just hoping that she gets opportunities to spend time with Konishikawa (usually under job pretenses). It's pretty bad that even Konishikawa started to have an inkling and she torpedoed her own chances by doing the usual "You're just a boss I admire" schtick while secretly gushing on the inside. The author/universe has given her ample opportunity to come out and confess but she keeps swatting them away for some stupid reason and now it's biting her in the ass.

I still stand by that the otaku and new kouhai pairing is a significantly more interesting and well developed budding romance in this story and they aren't even the main focus. They've had gradual progress from their first meet cute to both opening up to each other and showing a more vulnerable side and have mutual respect. The kouhai has also improved otaku's behavior noticeably since she's been hanging around him and he gives her encouragement to keep going despite her fumbles. They're basically perfect for each other.

Irony that it shows the author can write a decent couple romance if they wanted to but for some reason we get this slow meandering shit with Misato and Konishikawa instead. Maybe it's just that the Misato plotline is so tepid that even the most bog standard paint by numbers story telling of the otaku x kouhai pairing seems compelling by comparison.
