I haven’t read this manga (and won’t, judging by what it’s going for), but the fact that the main character is still clearly overweight on the cover of volume 7 says a lot.
From the description, it sounds like her main issue, being ridiculed for being fat, could be tackled through something pretty straightforward: losing weight.
But instead of putting any real effort towards that, the story seems to lean into her getting emotional support from two nice guys while she stays the same.
We’re supposed to see this as some deep journey of self-esteem and maturity, but really it just sounds like a wish-fulfillment fantasy for someone who doesn’t want to change but desperately wants to be told she’s perfect anyway.
Classic case of a writer projecting her own issues into fiction. Why actually improve when you can just be validated?
Maybe the award this story won was for female empowerment?
I'm only commenting because I guess it triggered me as a former fat guy. If you're an adult, it's your own fault you're fat. Also means it's in your hands to change that.
what's wrong with wish-fulfilment stories for women? You see stories of fat/unttractive men getting with beautiful women all the time ( Accel World, Asahina Wakaba to ○○ na Kareshi, Ore Monogatari!!, Onani Master Kurosawa, "Ugly Bastard" genre, the countless series with an ugly dad+young, attractive mom, etc )
FMC never wants to be seen as "perfect", she just wants to live normally without being ridiculed for simply existing. Which is a
completely normal mindset, regardless of your appearance. What do you tell skinny people who are still "ugly"? It's their fault and they should just get plastic surgery? At some point you have to stop trying to fix every insecurity and just live life as you are.
And honestly if you look around, there are MANY overweight/"unattractive" people dating fit/"attractive" people. I have been with or have been very attracted to overweight people who had wonderful personalities. You have a lot of inner work to do if you're "triggered" by a very tame, inoffensive story you won't even read a single chapter of :/
P.S. a lot of "former fat" people are extremely prone to relapsing at some point, or even multiple times in their lives. If that ever happens to you, I hope you'll find peace and acceptance within yourself.
edit: lol nice alt acct dude
