I figured out that it would be an otome isekai and that the father had seen the future, but the details are both fascinating and a bit disturbing. Why are there so many older men falling for younger women? The father of Magnolia fell for the heroine, and the Uncle fell for Magnolia??

I hate to break it to ya but after skimming the WN, I think this author likes huge age gaps because there are more.

I felt that would be the case. It would be one thing if that was what happened in the game or novel, and not "IRL", but that is definitively losing a lot of points for me. It is still a pretty fun and interesting story so far, I just hope that development is handled "graciously" at least and not like a brick thrown in our faces.

Okay, having not read any spoiler at this point, I'm guess the father has regained previous life memories, much like the MC, and in them he remembers some piece of media where the MC is actually the villainess. He's trying to dull her teeth, so to speak, and make it so she won't become such a threat in the future. The means he's making her uneligable for being the prince's fiancee, and not educating her or training her physically so she won't become a threat within their own home. Of course I haven't got much to go on besides the fathers change of heart, and the fact he doesn't seem to be acting outright cruel to her... there's no real excuse for the wife's behaviour though, but perhaps she needs to act this way so she can distance her heart from her daughter and not become depressed at her treatment.

... and reading a quick spoiler, I'm pretty darn close. Good job me! :dogkek:

Okay people, I went ahead and looked up the WN just to answer this question.

Obviously spoilers

As you might have guessed, this world is the world of an otome game. Magnolia (age 16) is a secondary villainess. She and the main villainess Gardenia (age 17) are competing for the crown princess position with the loser becoming a concubine. In the game her defining features were her ditziness and huge chest. She would harass the obligatory commoner/baron's illegitimate daughter heroine Margaret (age 16) while battling with the main villainess for the prince's love. As the trope goes, the heroine wins, both villainesses have the engagement broken off in a public condemnation event, and they are confined to a convent for the rest of their lives.

Adding insult to injury, Magnolia's father Gerald (age 42) and brother Brian (age 19) were both enthralled with the heroine and did not defend her as she cried out to them. However, Magnolia's bullying was so pathetically low-level it only endeared her to the fans of the game. Her character design (beautiful, dumb, huge tits) made her so popular, she became the heroine of the sequel.

The set up of that is as follows:

Prince Julius (age 18) studying from abroad at the academy alongside heroine, Magnolia, etc. could not bear to see her mistreatment and tried to ask for her hand in marriage. The request was denied because criminal scum was not appropriate for a foreign prince. Later on, Uncle Claude (age 32) hears what happened and is heartbroken that a niece he had never even heard of had gone through this. He protests that the punishment of life imprisonment did not fit the crime and asked to take Magnolia back to Azenda. This request is also denied.

In desperation, Claude seeks out Magnolia himself and manages to catch a glimpse of her in the carriage as she is led away. He falls in love with her at first sight. He reveals the secret of his birth as the Grand Duke of Azenda everyone believed to be dead. He declares the reestablishment of the Principality of Azenda, raises an army, and wages war against the Kingdom of Ascald to free Magnolia. Hearing this news, Prince Julius also declares war on Ascald to save Magnolia.

Gerald's reason for concealing Magnolia all this time is because he has seen this future. The best solution he could come up with is concealing her existence for as long as he can because the story is trying to correct everything he is doing back to the original plot.
wait hold on,
why the prince also trying to saved her when he's the person that put her in that state in the first place?
also does that mean she was punished in other country since you said the prince wage a war on the kingdom that punished her?
and also, wtf her dad and brother is charmed by heroine?

There are several princes. It's an otome game after all. The one who jailed her is not Prince Julian (foreign prince) but the Crown Prince of Ascald that she was engaged to. Magnolia is an Ascald noble.

Whatever the reason he has to hide her, he still didn't make any effort to make her room liveable for a little child. No gifts. No birthdays. Calling her "that". He's a POS in my book even if the excuse is to "protect her". You can't protect a child by neglecting them.

I really hope the author won't try to redeem the father later on. Regardless of what "future" he knows, neglect isn't the solution. Not to mention blatant bullying from his wife.
