That's all well and good, but it's not how things work anymore. They haven't worked that way for decades, and men lose everything, including their lives, by believing the lie of a mutual, loving partnership. Bless the lucky ones who have that, for they are few and far between.
The piggy bank at the end is painfully true. Lads, what's yours is hers and what's hers is hers. That's always been true and has never stopped being true in any social dynamic. Even with totally isolated accounts, she builds her nest egg secretly, expects you to fund her habits anyway, fools around with other men behind your back, gaslights and manipulates you into a compromised position as if it's your fault, and then divorces you for every last cent and asset you haven't handed over yet. Oh, and the State gets a massive cut, which they then spend against you as well, all while you're wrung dry and don't ever get to see your children again. It's alright though, she's on social media making sure everybody knows what a piece of shit you are for doing things you never did and saying things you never said.
Moral of the story, separate isn't separate when she wants to separate - there's every incentive for her to do it and none for her to work it out with you, if that's even possible these days. I've buried at least one good friend because of it, and I'm thankful I was nearly broke and didn't have kids before I went through it myself. You're right, it isn't funny - it's a damn tragedy. I take responsibility for my poor decisions (I made many, will make more), but for too many men, the game was rigged from the start.
