NOO HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO SELF-INSERT MYSELF INTO THE STORY NOW!?A manga where the guy actually knows how to resist and flirt back? astonishing. Mind blowing even, why is this so rare to see? Do people really love loser MC's that are constantly being led/toyed with by a girl more than this?
The rival is always better than the main girl (whether in looks, personality, body type, hair, etc), that's the reason why she is the rival. It gives a sense of accomplishment when the main girl clearly beats someone who is far superior to her. There is no sense of accomplishment if the main girl is the best girl, and she "punches down" and beats the romantic rival. As usual, the second heroine is much more interesting than the main heroine. We all know she will lose to the main heroine..
I quite like her though.
That makes you wonder if mangas like this have a female author self inserting into the for some reason incredibly annoying and dislikable FMC?The rival is always better than the main girl (whether in looks, personality, body type, hair, etc), that's the reason why she is the rival. Looking at her previous work, all of it is shojo manga. This is actually the manga artist's first non-shojo manga. I am taking a guess here, but since 95% of shojo manga artists are women, odds are extremely high that the manga artist is also a woman. That makes you wonder if mangas like this have a female author self inserting into the for some reason incredibly annoying and dislikable FMC?
Self-insertion definitely ain't a bad thing, but it is a bad thing when that makes the most dislikable character be the FMCSo yes, there might be some degree of self-insertion in the storyline, not that it's a bad thing or anything. It does explain why the main character, who is an otaku, is also hot for a shonen manga. A male manga artist would definitely make him more frumpy to be a self-insert.
