I thought that maybe a monster wasn't so bad and Kon was a part of it or something... but now I am downright worried this won't have a happy ending.
Maybe it's like with Batman cartoon when Clayface accidentally created a little girl and later he absorbs her back

If Kon was never a real person then she was a fragment from the monster, so the question is if there's anything left of the Kon we knew or if that was the "real" Kon all along and everyone brains just filled the gaps in the monster illusion or something

After all we don't know how much of Kon was what we really saw and how much was just the monster messing with people perception, did Kon ever actually look human for example? Did she ever speak at all?

I'd think so if it wasn't for the part where sea monster tries to snatch the girls as soon as it was called out. :shamihuh:

Not necessarily, if she was completely absorbed her mind might have just stopped existing or be dormant, in Clayface example I used Batman and Robin basically consider it a murder cause the girl was clearly sapient but by being absorbed she stopped existing

Reminds me of Dragon Ball Z too Where Buu adult looking fusion is also sapient but when it's undone he literally stop existing altogether, he doesn't show even in hell later, he literally is just gone forever unless they wish him back I guess

Chances are next chapter Kon consciousness will awake inside the monster and she help the girls escape or something

So Kon is super dead got it
Hoping for the best, preparing for the worst.
I suspect we'll get a bittersweet ending, her personality will awake inside the monster which let's her aunt and ex girlfriend escape, I think real question is what happens with her, if that will be like a last act before she completely disappears, if not and she takes control of the monster body to leave forever, or if somehow she separates from the monster and goes back to have a regular life

I don't think she's super dead due to how Japanese mythology works, although she probably started as an offshoot from the monster she probably has her own soul or something, hell, won't be surprised if we get a time skip, we get to see her ex girlfriend + the girl who was peacocking her as an adult and then they meet a child version of Kon that reincarnated as a human, aunt future child maybe?

Cause really, that's the closest to a happy ending I see Kon getting unfortunately, at least I don't think the story is dark enough for Kon to be super dead and simply disappear into oblivion as if she was Megatron if he refused Unicron deal :v

A few things might be going on:
1) It's possible Kon is the original blood sacrifice from the stories way back since they looked so similar. And she is allowed to reconstitute and go back among humans either for a specific reason or simply a tool of curiosity for the monster. Maybe even in planted like a cuckoo bird.

2) Kon is just a regular human who happened to become the most recent "sacrifice" for this generation and a means of the monster digesting all of the village news through her memories. If the original sacrifice girl still exists in there somewhere she might be driving this curiosity of the humans she historically lived among.

When Kon was being absorbed her memory lingered on the hot smoking auntie who incidentally had a run in with the monster herself earlier. So perhaps the monster was using her as its info gathering and paused when it saw someone familiar.

I really feel like this series could retain some momentum if they didn't drop like half a chapter every 2 months. I'm looking forward to the conclusion so I can read it as a coherent story instead of a half remembered mess.

I'm glad this will be getting an official English release because that means the Uncle will be fully retconned and there is a very small chance this will eventually see an anime adaptation. Though it feels more suited to a movie than a tv series.

Also the monster is toxic yuri, I guess?
