Thats a bit fucked but completely understandable, the mother was traumatized and was faced with the consequences of her actions (or lack there was) and is trying to compensate. I love how this story portrays broken people in a "realistic" and tame manner.

Damn, family matters just got real. I agree with the first comment. To add to it, I think this route of Mikoto-san getting a scar via a jealous attack is much better than the novel version. And adds more depth to the characters that the novel kinda lacks.

That... makes no sense
It's basically just a birth mark instead of a scar very rare but possible. There have been instances of family members inheriting the same hereditary birth marks, though again it is quite rare. I assume this is what op meant by hereditary.
