I'd have to disagree, there are unhealthy collectors or celerity worshipers everywhere, it's just that social media compartmentalizes everything. It's a fault that every human susceptible to, not just the Japanese. So, both male and female go full idiot.
I don't feel merch is a big thing outside Japan, maybe it's a thing in all of Asia and I didn't notice?
Sure there is merch in the rest of the world, but the level of insanity in Japan seems to be cranked above 500% maybe above 5000% comparatively.
That's not merch, that's product.I'd have to disagree, there are unhealthy collectors or celerity worshipers everywhere, it's just that social media compartmentalizes everything. It's a fault that every human susceptible to, not just the Japanese.
When it comes to just collecting, I can think of Labubu and Pokemon cards off the top of my head. I swear, everyone is an idiot monke that can use tools.
That's not merch, that's product.
Excuse me but are you dumb? Your example is 2 things of the same type and somehow that is supposed to mean something? Because it doesn't.It's all consumerism, bro. You buy stuff and the chemicals in your brain make you feel good. I don't know how you rationalize it in your head, stuff is stuff.
That's just monkey logic. Someone who buys a keychain because they have a parasoical relationship with a music artist like Taylor Swift is no different from someone who collects keychains of music stars. You have 2 people who brought the same keychain.
The point is the difference between enjoying stuff and being obsessed about it, and you have people who walk that fine line everywhere.
Excuse me but are you dumb? Your example is 2 things of the same type and somehow that is supposed to mean something? Because it doesn't.
1. Pokemon cards was your example, I used it because your other example is something seemingly asian, something I know very little about.I did not expect name-calling. Definitely some miscommunication here. If you have a personal issue with Pokémon cards, It’s not my business.
Yes, I do believe my example is a good example. Both individuals in that example are buying the same product and are enjoying them. Their reasoning/rationalization may differ, but both are getting fulfillment from purchasing the same product.
My disagreement with you lies with you making the claim that ONLY Japanese people going crazy over hyperconsumism with to a point where it negatively affects them financially and socially.
1. Pokemon cards was your example, I used it because your other example is something seemingly asian, something I know very little about.
2. But you ware replying on me talking about merch vs product, so how does comparing merch and merch mean anything in context, it's like swapping conversations while quoting the last conversation.
3. Never said that, plain and simple, never happened.
What I did say was that it seems to be a much more common thing in Japan, and is that not true? It is according to common internet rumor anyway.
It wouldn't be an "internet fight" if you didn't keep trying to have the last word with some "actually I'm correct by misreading what you say" or "I'm blaming you for not agreeing with me despite you not being wrong in any way"I don't want to get too deep into this, this is a manga site and I don't have hours of free time to get into internet fights.
I know someone is going to screencap arguments for easy content for their social media account.
I feel like we have a lot of agreements just misunderstandings, but you have been the one throwing shade the entire time.
At least from my perspective, selling merch is just as common thing worldwide in developed countries as much as Japan.
Social Media is catered to individuals, so what you think is common, isn't common knowledge for everyone.
For example, you don't know what labubu dolls and that is a worldwide craze in certain circles now. The internet is a lot of super small communities, and they don't talk to each other.
