I think she was pretty honest with her response. They were friends and she didn't want to take it farther than that. I'm sure she regrets that it hurt him, and would've liked a way to do it that didn't, but not her answer.

Honestly, if redrawing SFX is killing your drive to work on this title, i don't think it'd be a huge dealbreaker to leave them as-is with TL notes when necessary.
