Yeah, the scale of what he's attempting is crazy. Someone with knowledge of plate tectonics might just erase the volcano and leave the magma flow under it exposed so the pressure has a huge hole to escape through instead of the relief valve of the volcano. The bigger the rupture the faster the pressure drops.

this is the best thing to do.. make alot of holes or a big one so the pressure doesn't build up.
