Oh the angst is sooo gooood :wooow:

I would be kinda sad if this isn't OG Lapis, but what can you do. Reserving judgement for now, let's see how it plays out.

We were so close to the sailing of the ship! It's like the bottle bounced off instead of breaking against it

It's not a theory (not anymore anyway) :v latest RAW confirmed she is Aurora, the adopted sister and likely the current saintess.
Hhhhooowww??? Like how? I'm totally dumbfounded here lmaooo I guess it's time to re-read previous chapters.. and wait for the next translation

Personal speculation based on what's shown:
Aurora was likely adopted once they realized she's possibly the saintess.

Then someone, likely the dad, wanted to use her to recreate the country's founding legend of water magic using king + saintess combined power to create the holy-water barrier repelling monsters.
But Aurora being an orphan would face oppositions from other nobles, whether out of jealousy or other reasons.

So the plan was to make her Lapis, a duke's daughter so her marrying the prince would have far less room for criticism.
And to ensure she stick to the role, they probably threaten her that if she break character the orphanage might meet an unfortunate monster outbreak.

It'd explain why she's so insistent on not showing kindness to Natori, since that'd make Natori an extra 'hostage' those people can use.
Not to mention given the OG story, her plan is basically assisted suicide since she's blessed with rather durable body (she was found unharmed amidst monster attack, and despite eating very little she remains healthy)

You know, I feel like she hasn’t been playing her “can see the future” card lately, is it even relevant to the plot anymore? or am i just forgetting
Her "can see the future" card cant technically be used. she only knows how the game goes and ends. Since she's altering the future, things are different so she cant predict anything
