I like how he described his feelings and thought when embrace Yukino. Ended by the phrase when he wake up seeing her smile.

Such a great read! Thanks for the translation!

Thank you for the translation! Yet another great chapter.

can’t say i appreciate any piece of media perpetuating the idea that “sometimes, No doesn’t mean No ;)”, it’s a fuckin dangerous and stupid idea

Unfortunately, that's how it is in Japan. When I started living there, initially, there were a few cases where the girls were mad I took their "No" for actual "no". It took some cultural adjustment and I got the hang of it. With the caveat that a drunk "no" that's not an actual "no" was still of the charts for me, because that's just sleazy and well, unethical.

I'm not even going to pull the "different culture" card, which even if it's true, women AND men do that in the west. You cannot hear the tone of the "no" in written form.

With experience, maybe you'll eventually hear one of these no's like many of us have. The "no's" that made me laugh the most when it meant yes from my experience was with a girl that invited me over her house, made me sit on her bed, went to take a shower herself, came with a towel covering her body and while being next to me, dropped her towel saying "oops" and bending over showing everything. So when I obviously took action, all she said was "nooo~". Eventually I understood why she said no and it was because it was her way to forgive herself that she was cheating her bf (she also lied to me saying she was single at the time).

Maybe a world where every person was honest about everything would be nicer. But we live in a world where people say what they don't mean FREQUENTLY in ALL cultures.

I 100% get that it's uncomfortable to think about it that way when it comes to intercourse, usually because there's always going to be some piece of shit out there using 'he/she actually wanted it despite saying "no"' as an excuse for violent behavior. Here however she says 'no' then she starts kissing him ...

Don't get me wrong, I think there's legitimate places to bring up that complaint but considering the context in this manga the complaint seems misplaced.

Thanks for the chapter !

Sigh. Proof that this is written by a Josei author. This couldn't be a scene of intimacy where she allows herself to realize her love. Nope. It's gotta be a "you say no, but you're letting me, an older, successful man you trust and respect and who is here with you alone in the dark, grope you and then pressure you into sex, does that really mean no" one.

THE GUY WHO JUST SAID THAT THE PROTECTIVE URGE IS THE DESIRE TO SEE WOMEN HURT SO THEY CAN BE PROTECTED WOULD NOT DO THIS. THIS makes his earnest, honest, sincere care look PREDATORY. And I know! I know it's cause being preyed on by the right guy has been romanticized over and over and over! But this has been YEARS of writing him as a sincere romantic who wants to understand the woman who he had a fated encounter with, and he does THIS.

Fuckin'... can't resist it. Jesus christ what's the matter with this genre. Keep in mind, I'm not saying this as a HE'S A CREEP response. I'm saying this as a deeply frustrated reaction to watching years of powerful and heartfelt characterization go out the goddamn window. Why would he pressure her? He's never done that. He's relentlessly pursued her, reacted to her vulnerability, and crossed social lines to learn things about her he otherwise wouldn't know, yes. But he has always pulled away when he thought it wasn't appropriate. Their first time having a "I sure wish I knew if Yukino actually wanted to have sex with me that night" sidebar is fucking insane for who we've spent all this time establishing who he is.

Years, literal years, of building up this guy as a sensitive, intellectual, romantic, earnest man. The kind of man who came to her house because the power was out and he wanted to make sure she was okay, not because he saw an opportunity. Then, to force a sex scene, going "but also he'll be kinda rapey sometimes but only if the story decides that'd be hot." The worst part? The goddamn worst part? This spits in the subtle theme of how decency, earnestness, vulnerability, and romanticism is desirable. We've seen Yukino fall for him first because of what she thought was hidden darkness, but then fall for him because of his open heart. His erotic literature was poetic and proof of passion, not something creepy and predatory. He was a man who had deep, untapped passion that Yukino saw and was unsure she was worthy of receiving.

The reluctant nos? Shit, you want that? Make it the 'no' of 'don't touch me, I'm filthy.' Make it a resistance not against his actions, but receiving his affection. Instead of "you gonna leave me hanging" it'd be him declaring that even though she thinks she shouldn't be pursued, he wants her.

FUCK

It's hilarious to watch western people squirm and scoff at a work because they do not understand the culture it comes from.

Instead of remaining ignorant, ask a Japanese woman (or two) what she thinks about it. Show them the work in the original Japanese. Maybe you'll learn something.

Young Western people. The culture of women saying "no" despite meaning "yes" was widespread and considered normal in North America until at least the 80s. It wasn't universal, but it was common.

I'm not squirming. I'm annoyed. I'm not going squicky, I'm going you spent 5 years building this guy and you couldn't help taking the easy way.
This is a very understandable scene. I know this scene. She's hesitant, he pushes, she actually wants it but doesn't know how to not refuse. I get this. Deeply. It's the most common fucking scene in romances written by women. The allure of being wanted so much that the man you want you to want pushes through to claim you is just goddamn everywhere in this shit.
Except THIS BEAT has been so led up to and made so important, Rokuro's character so established and so interesting in how he mingles maturity, romanticism, and fundamental decency in a package where he's 40 and defiantly believes he still has so much to learn about love. He just talked about how the idea of 'wanting to protect' has the inherent implication of 'wanting someone to be in danger.' He's always retreated when he felt he was intruding, but always remained consistent in his pursuit.
If he was gonna be the "no means yes" guy why fucking BOTHER with the twist where Yukino panics and disengages when she realizes he's single? Why bother with all this buildup and mystery about why Yukino doesn't want to have a relationship with him if he was going to have sex with her without figuring that out? HOW is the first sex scene where the fundamental mystery and driving romantic force of the whole story is understanding Yukino's motives one where WE DON'T EVEN KNOW IF SHE WANTS IT
This is a profound waste of a truly beautiful setup that may have even had important things to say about the nature of passion, love, and yearning. The beat was right there: have him push through because she feels she isn't allowed to receive his love. Do it for her, not for him. It's literally been there the whole time. Instead we get a smut scene that's basically the start of every "mature" romance out there. It's so... god, I've never actually dropped anything out of disappointment before, but holy shit after waiting 4 goddamn years, getting this? Christ.

I agree with @Weoooo, the bedroom scene in this chapter felt like going through the motions, with everything obligatory according to genre conventions. This is especially apparent in contrast with chapter 15. There, the "No" on page 16 has the context of Yukino actively participating in getting undressed in earlier pages. In this chapter, the repeated "No" and the emphatic "I said no!" being ignored by Rokurou seemed weird and out-of-place.

I reread chapter 15 and I'm mad all over again. If you want a solid example of how this scene should play out? Read that chapter. Tell me Rokurou in that chapter's the same fuckin' guy as this one.

It's not really a waste, it just feels very japanese and that's it. Japan will do as Japan does, regardless of what you think it was leading to.
