I kind of wish revenge stories like this would flip the amount of time observing each character; that is to say, we watch the abusers downfall for the majority, while only catching glimpses of the victims life turning around.
The down fall is so much more interesting than the average school romcom malarkey that takes the majority of the chapters.
It's important to see the victim succeeding though, because it contrasts to, and perfectly confirms how important they were to the success of, the abusers.
Plus, after their satisfying downfall, wouldn't watching them try and turn things around, sorting themselves out, and redeeming themselves also be interesting? It would also be a fresh take for this kind of story.
