Little girl popped up a few chapters back alone in the snow and Taya took her in from the cold. Bio-mom is at work, so Taya is acting as her mother for now.

Don't give her have a tragic backstory, my heart won't take it.
It could be worse. It could be a Hamita and she'll have a tragic future as well.

The tiredness thing would appear to be "sympathetic pregnancy": https://health.clevelandclinic.org/couvade-syndrome-sympathetic-pregnancy

These chapters don't really feel dark to me, but that might just be because I don't think this comic ever telegraphs its dark moments. Anything that looks like dark foreshadowing is nearly always a red herring. The one exception I can think of is the creepy new boss, and that went wrong  entirely differently from how we expected it to.
This comic has its true dark moments, but when it does, it usually just kinda hits you with them.
