Yeah, it amuses me that I can tell what happened here even without a translator's note explaining it. They do this a lot in these mangas.

Anyway, didn't like this chapter too much. Felt like he was being a bit mean to Houjou.

Trauma is a bitch. But Houjou gets that and has some built-in leeway for it. I hope we don't see him test those limits any further than this.

I'm not the translator, but the words he uses are probably something along the lines of "You're right, I do like...soda flavour", but in Japanese it's common to make a sentence without repeating the previous object to make it less wordy, so the result would be: You are right. I do like (you). Soda flavour.
So now you can see how it would be pretty embarassing for Izumi.

It's not too complex. In Japanese, they often leave off the subject of a sentence if it's implied by the context. Here he said "I like" with the subject implied to be soda candy, but she sure heard "I like you."
