Non-Intrusive Ads… for a Short While

Good:
  • Static images for ads. Good job!
  • Ad is only for a somewhat sketchy Chinese software product (Opera GX), it could be worse. I suppose there isn't a lot of choice in advertising partners for a site like MangaDex.
Bad:
  • Ad takes up half the page, but you still call it "non-intrusive". Come on. At least make the banner a bit smaller so that people can actually use the site without an ad blocker.

So let me get this straight, the current state of the site is as follows:
1. It's pretty much hated by most groups, many of which refuse to upload here anymore. Scratch being scanlator friendly then.
2. Begs for donations but refuses to be transparent about finances.
3. Stuffs ads for scams and malware, having the gall to call them "non-intrusive".

That's probably more shady than most aggregators. However, unlike them they still obey DMCAs. Might makes right I suppose, but remind me, why should it still exist? Other than an additional source of ravenue for Henry's "business" schemes, I mean.

This is honestly disgraceful. Nobody in their right mind could call this "non-intrusive". It's so obnoxious that it actively impairs the use of the site. It's right there in the middle of the series page, taking up so much space that on a standard 1080p monitor you can't even see any chapters without scrolling down.

It's over
Are there even any other sites to migrate to? Comick was screwed too

Someone told me that my previous comment seems to have been deleted. It was not in violation of any rules and I did not receive any notice of its removal.

For those with uBlock, add this to your filter:
Code:
mangadex.org/promo/*$image

Creators are going to make less than they do now if they go subscription if you think about it Coins at least give some level of correlation to costs that each series gets. What's the subscription equivalent? Views? What is some subscriptions reads more series than others? Or one subscription reads only 1 series then unsubscribes at the end of the month? Think they're gonna give majority of that to that one creator?

Subs are good for fans, bad for creators
Coins are "bad" for fans, better than subs for creators
While I'd love Mangadex becoming the Crunchyroll of manga, I have to admit you're right about subscriptions
If manga artists don't get the money they deserve from subscriptions, and instead the platform profits (e.g., Spotify paying dimes to musicians), there's indeed a net loss for the industry

I guess I will have to temper my aversion to coins and use them after all

I moved over to Suwayomi/Tachidesk after Comick got blown up. You get the broad/unethical libraries of things like Bato and MangaPark while not having to put up with ads and their god awful readers.
Fairly sure those does not exist. Can only find entries that refer to them as apps, but I am not going to run an android emulator to read manga on my computer :p

Then do your own API calls, MangaDex even published a tutorial to do it.

If you are talking about MD, then I already do, it is how my userscript works.

I wasn't even aware of suwayomi and tachidesk before that comment, and much less aware of them having an api, and even less aware of md having published a tutorial on tose 2's api.

It's a java app so no need for an emulator (other than a JVM), but yeah it's an app you need on your machine. I honestly don't know why they did it this way, but guessing by the fact that you run both client and server, maybe it's some sort of p2p network? The github of the project says nothing of substance on it though, so that's already a failiure.
