I would give it more time before making a judgment. There is still plenty of opportunities for them to act before it becomes apparent he is way more powerful then he appears.

Just because they have a primitive civilization doesn't mean they're peaceful. They were just about to fight the kobolds before the MC showed up. They probably attack humans often enough to make them a subjugation target.

There will always be good and bad actors in any community. Despite their color of skin, just about any person could be cruel or kind, moral or amoral. First impressions play a big part in how we view each other, almost as much as the prejudices of those who raised us.

So try not be an opinionated asshole until your sure the other person truely deserves to be shit on.

True I used indigenous Africans in my example, but they were hardly the only culture that openly ate people. They just were the most famous for eating ignorant Christians who practically walked into the stew pot. Which is the first meme that came to mind when reading @Werebearguy comment.
