Yup, same here. I happened to stumble up on it recently, and it's been quite a fun read. Definitely recommend checking it out if anybody enjoys this umamusume stuff.

Most of these sorts of stories are wish fulfillment fantasies. That is to say a male author wants to explore their feminine side but create a contrivance where their self-insert OC is "forced" to do so. The forced part is important because it lacks the shame and baggage that comes with consciously choosing the indulgence (i.e. abdicating your "duty" to be a man). Them turning back -- or even suffering realistic psychological distress -- would defeat the whole point of the escapism. Both the author and Trainer-san want to fully experience being a horse girl on some level and are exactly where they want to be.

I know you might be thinking "then just write a story about wanting to be a girl and becoming a girl, why does it have to be so complicated?". If so, I agree. I think that sort of self-honesty make for a better writer and story. But that sort of story is considerably more rare in the gender bend genre.

Well i can understand because the purpose of making a story nowadays is just to appeal to the readers, and who are the main consumers of doujins other than people who wishes to self insert themselves into the story. I do agree that genderbend stories are just comedy but mc gender is flipped, there arent that many stories that delve into the 'consequence' of genderbending. But for those that do, they will be renembered for years to come.

Do not worry when they run out of this idea (and the obligatory boobs cropping) they just go and forget they write a GB story and just write an normal female prota like nothing happened


God I hate that, one I have in head rn is Yasei no Last Boss ga Arawareta! it has been 4 years since I last read it but I think the GB aspect has not a single impact on the story so why not just make the prota a girl from the start, like it is that hard to write make a girl as a prota and need to have a guy in charge even if it change nothing ??? I never understand those GB that do it in the setup and nothing else


Like "GB" is a pretty deep and vast subject to explore, as much as Onimai is super light on it, I fine it interesting the slow burn take of Mahiro questioning (not directly) their gender identity and how it affect their life.
I do enjoy the "I did not wish to change gender", actually I might like it better when it come to "magical gender change" Until I Become Me is a favorite or Majo no Geboku to Maou no Tsuno and Zenbu Kimi no Sei
I think the trope itself is good... JUST done very sloopy way more often than not.
Now I also can enjoy a Trans girl change sex story but more as a exploration of womenhood ig but I do not have a name that could share in head, they are harder to write and rarer so that suck

So her umamusume gene got the best of her aye? Its pretty scary to be honest, to suddenly found yourself not being who you are anymore, his wish was to be useful to his horse girl, the messed up goddess turned him into a horse girl instead. And if i follow this type of story correctly, this girl will not ever turn back into a man instead accept her new identity. But all is good and fine, its a doujin, no one is going to put that kind of psychological sickness in their work, especially from the japanese authors.

Her instinct to run is starting to get more important than her giving training to the uma musume. While it is still important, I guess after turning into one, her priority started to go up to primarily, Running. She can't focus on other else if she couldn't run from time to time.
It's almost like a Greek God cursing a beautiful woman because she simply too beautiful that its much more than divine, turned her into a serpent that can turn stones in everywhere she looked at living beings to their eyes.
