It didn't take DMCA's to cause people to leave here.
All it took was an insanely unnecessary site re-design that was by all objective standards a downgrade into a convoluted mess.

Even re-visiting now it's a completely cluttered disaster; like someone with too much time on their hands "fixing" things that aren't broken and making it so cluttered and trashy looking that most people simply nope the hell out.

The early versions of this website were one of the best reading sites I've ever seen. That's what also led to it exploding in popularity, despite many other options at the time. But some people don't know how to simply leave crap alone and have a toddler mentality of "newer is better!"

DMCA's had very little to do with anything. It was mostly self-inflicted stupidity.
lol remember when one of the web"devs" here was surprised people wanted [OR] functionality in a section of search after they took it out because "they'd never used it"

So, uh, anyone wanna gossip about all the shady shit Comick was and is still doing?

(I'm trying to celebrate their partial return by making sure they'll never fully return lol)
Something about converting Comick into a tracking site...
Currently, only the "comick.io" and comick.dev" is owned by the original comick.
The "comick.io" site will reject you with an announcement page while the "comick.dev" show the comick website with the chapter reading disabled.

No I'm talking about the ✨ shady shit ✨

I know about them returning, I know about the comick.io announcement, I know about comick.dev.

What I didn't know was comick.dev NOT being a fake clone site, and that last time I checked it was a fully functioning Comick clone with reader and accounts. This was long after Comick got hit with lawyers btw. (shady shit #1)

Oh, and accounts. I was about to add ".dev" being able to take your logins for extra evidence here, but it turned out to be legit so whatever. The ring of fake clones owned by ComicPeak (includes ".is", ".so", and ".live") is able to take your CORRECT email and CORRECT password. I tested it, thinking that maybe they only have partial leaks or something. Nope only the correct logins work. Which means either Meo fucking sold the logins, or Meo stored the logins incompetently, or Meo didn't even notice a hack happened at all, or Meo did notice but decided to shut the fuck up. (shady shit #2)

Whatever shady shit #2
I don't know what to tell about this.
i don't want to try it too.
Personally, i didn't sign up with comick with the default email-password thingy. I used the OAuth2 login system.
maybe some old databreach before this new login system?

What's worse is them not backing up so I lost 2 months' of data which happens to be the time I started using comick to add more series.

The discord grp is useless from enforcing long time outs and spamming annoucements.

Now even discord has to do ID checks for all countries lol

Enough time has passed... Come on guys I'm here to hear more gossips, why am I the only one sharing things.

Like for example, Comick used a very insidious method of anti-adblock. I don't remember exactly which domain it was at, just that it was after ".fun" and before ".io", also before "meo4" subdomain got used.

Basically if the website detects that the ads were not showing, it will throttle the chapters' image files being served from "meo" and "meo3". Then once the image finished loading, the image URL would be changed into "meo2". Thing is, all subdomains had a particular way of organizing files. Even "meo2", the culprit, would also have the same files located in the same path.

The thing is, the new replacement image URL is a fake path that didn't exist. So not only costing you your internet bills, your time from waiting, it doesn't even let you read the chapter at all. I had to scramble together a JS bookmarklet to revert the fake "meo2" into the correct path. (shady shit #4)

Interesting, I prefer not talking ill of the dead so I haven't said much. Maybe the fact I haven't heard any is a proof of its demise?

I don't think I was aware of comick with .fun, so I haven't seen that, but it's already happened to me on games (can't play the game if you don't authorise ads, although very rarely) or on other websites temporally (sorry dragontea but you deserve this bullet coming at you.)

What's with the gravatar integration? I've seen it on mick & mix, & I think it's "off". Some A.I. profile management platform, on a piracy site, it just feels like they're extracting info, especially preying on the want of a profile picture.
