At least he had the wherewithal to recognize he was outgunned and ask for help. That's... kind of a step in the right direction? Almost? Sorta?
I'll hurt myself if Katsuya ends up getting all the credit from Akira's help.
You already know damn well that's what's gonna happen. Choose life, friend.
Katsuya's AI is kinda dumb. So what if he slightly responds to your influence? You can't manipulate him entirely and he's a huge liability.

Just cut your loses and let the superior Alpha/Akira team take over.
I'm sure there's a perfectly good reason why she can't just dump his ass right then and there and find a new slum kid with the neural interface thingamajig to try again with, but I can't think of it myself. "Sunk-cost fallacy" is the only thing that makes sense to me, at this point.
I have a feeling Akira is going to be a shield and sandbag for every Katsuya misfortune. :fml:
Wasn't that like, a plot point? That Akira was being underestimated by everyone and Katsuya was being overestimated, and we still mostly don't know why?

I read about people like Akira who can connect to these assistants that they have special traits and Akira have the lowkey trait and this other dude being highkey. The red haired girl not affected by the dude's trait is interesting. Does it have to do with like she was influenced by Akira's trait or shes just too intelligent to be effected by untrained trait?

The implication is that, although they have the same ultimate goal, the AIs are still competing with each other to achieve that goal. Hence, neither is going to yield to the other unless it clearly contradicts the ultimate goal.

And from the viewpoint of the ultimate goal, it makes sense to have different teams trying different approaches to achieve that goal. So this competition, so long as it does not get out of hand, is expected/desirable. (Large organizations frequently take this sort of approach.)

Beta is clearly unhappy with Katsuya's focus on defending other people. (See page 17.) We're also seeing Alpha discouraging Akira from helping Katsuya. Which fits with what we've seen previously -- the AIs don't want their subjects to risk/sacrifice themselves for other people. And we know that Alpha has failed with other subjects who got quite close to doing what she wanted them to do. ... Which is most likely something that will damage/kill humans on a large scale.

We are seeing some Alpha vs Beta competition here. But most likely the long term conflict is likely: Akira & Katsuya vs Alpha & Beta.

It's absolutely clear that both AIs are trying to manipulate their subjects. And it's also clear that sometimes their manipulations fail and their subjects make choices in conflict with the AIs' desires.
