I'm sure there's a perfectly good reason why she can't just dump his ass right then and there and find a new slum kid with the neural interface thingamajig to try again with, but I can't think of it myself. "Sunk-cost fallacy" is the only thing that makes sense to me, at this point.
I have a feeling Akira is going to be a shield and sandbag for every Katsuya misfortune.
Wasn't that like, a plot point? That Akira was being underestimated by everyone and Katsuya was being overestimated, and we still mostly don't know why?
